Mule & Greyface Sheep Group Aims

  • To work together with the common goal of producing quality prolific breeding stock both hoggets and ewe lambs that are fully traceable and of a high disease free status.
  • To promote the Mayo Mule & Greyface breed as a dam for producing the ideal factory lamb for the French market and the home trade.
  • To organise an Annual sale for prime breeding stock to cater for an existing customer base and new customers.
  • The group is actively involved in genotyping and members are now only allowed to use category 1 or 2 rams.

About the Mule & Greyface Sheep Breed

The Mayo Mule is a cross between the Scottish Blackface and the Blue-faced Leicester whilst the Grey face is a cross between the Scottish Blackface and the Border Leicester. Both crosses are renowned for their qualities including:

  • Hardiness
  • Mothering Ability
  • Milkiness
  • Ease of care at lambing
  • Prolifacy - 1.6 to 1.7 lambs reared per ewe to the ram
